Good Time For Weddings at The New Mexico Museum of Art
As it approaches its 100th birthday, as the trees bloom on the grounds, and as workers put the finishing touches on a major renovation of its public spaces, the New Mexico Museum of Art seems like the perfect place for a destination wedding. The museum sits just off the plaza in Santa Fe, the historical and modern day center of the city. It occupies a building of classic adobe beauty that oozes history to anyone who walks by.
The ceremonies are usually held in the St. Francis auditorium (pictured below), a beautiful space that dates back to the early days of the last century. Warning: While a wedding always involves solemn vows, the beautiful murals and historic feel of the auditorium will feel underline the word “solemn” for any couple that stands on its stage.
I was given a tour of the premises by Cindy Friday, the event manager for the museum. One can immediately feel the weight of the responsibility for the museum’s beautiful collection that she’s been entrusted with, and the grilling she gave me made clear that any vendor–photographer, caterer, whoever–who passes muster with her is assured to do an excellent job. I also got a look at the courtyard where most of the receptions are held. A top-to-bottom renovation is almost complete, including the installation of a fountain in the center. The courtyard is marked by classic Spanish colonial architecture. A great place for a party.
